We were all little kids once. The older we get, the more distant and elusive that little character becomes. As we navigate life, we accumulate layers of external influences, habits, beliefs, fears, and self-doubt. Our inner child is weighed down by the heavy demands and responsibilities of modern life. Sometimes, we get very confused about ourselves, failing to see through all of those layers. But deep inside lies something small yet profound: our most authentic selves.

“Big little” is a musical time capsule, featuring piano compositions that I wrote in my teens, now released 25 years later in their original form. Perfectly imperfect, it invites listeners to look within and reconnect with their own childhood dreams and aspirations. By uniting youthful spirit with a mature perspective, we can unlock our fullest potential!

Burst of Being - Album Cover

"In my first public album, Burst of Being, I aim to symbolize the relentlessness of life in the world around us. Life is a fundamental force of the universe, and every living thing struggles to survive in this vast cosmic relay. Everything strives to be. Life is ancient, rooting deep in all of us. Looking at a tree in my backyard, I couldn’t help but notice how much we, as humans, actually have in common with trees. Its unique form is shaped by decades of co-emergence with its neighbors and the environment, preceded by millions of years of evolution. There is a story in every curve, branch, and scar on the bark. A story of survival, a story of being – it is what we all share."

Bio

Picture of the author

I was born and raised in Kyiv, Ukraine, and later moved to the United States with my wife and children. My original name is Yuriy, but I’m tired of it being misspelled 😅

After a two-decade-long software engineering career, I made a leap of faith and started over to fulfill my childhood dream of being a composer. What motivated me was a simple yet powerful question: If this were my last year of life, what would I regret not having done? The answer was clear, and there was no going back since.

Now that the musical floodgates have opened into my life as wide as ever, I have been crying almost daily – not out of sadness or joy, but from FEELING things. Feeling the beauty of stories, struggles, love, loneliness, nature, life, and so much more. I have an overwhelming urge to capture these feelings in music, which I call “A Soundtrack to Life.”

In the age of advanced AI art, I’ve never felt a greater need for human-made things. With all of its utility, when it comes to art, AI is the opposite of what I am looking for as an art consumer. AI doesn’t cry. The more fake art floods the world, the stronger my urge to create as a human becomes.

Music has been a vital part of me, yet all my ideas have gathered dust on hard drives and in my memory. My inner critic wouldn’t let anything pass beyond a house party. Now I’ve realized that it’s not up to me to decide whether others would like my music; my job is to create and share to the best of my ability. I’ve had to convince myself that I don’t need to be a modern-day Chopin to share my creations without embarrassment and feeling like an impostor.

I have so much more to share with you, so please subscribe to my newsletter and follow me on Instagram and streaming services.
